I don't yet have any DLCs for Skyrim. It's not lack of interest so much as lack of money. I can understand if in order to make a mod the way one wants, that some are going to need DLC. But really, if you're going to create what amounts to as a vanilla house or follower or whatever that has nothing from any of the DLCs in it, then make it dependant on it anyway, just because you think that "it's damn well time that everyone had the DLC and there's no excuse not to"? Really? Some people can't afford the extra expense. Others have no real interest in them. If you're doing it out of some kind of misguided modder snobbery, then climb down off your high horse before people stop downloading your mods and you get a reputation as being one of those modders where people say, "Yeah they do great work, but he/she is a real dick!' I don't currently have any links, because the mods mysteriously vanished, but one was a very nice house mod and the other was a companion, and both required all three DLC's for no other reason than the modder could make it so. No assets, no navmesh, no 'bring your spouse and adopted kids to this house' going on. Yes, I can just not download them. I just don't like being purposely not included because I don't match some arbitrary criteria.

On, the unreasonable dependencies are aweful. I felt bad making GHD dependent on Bloodmoon, and that was because Cortex's transformation scripts needed the functionality from the expansion to work.
What ever happened to sharing mods for the sake of wanting as many other people as possible to enjoy them?

Among some people there is a tendency to think that "almost everyone is using this add-on/expansion, and those who don't do not matter and should 'get with the program'."
A while back the author of the Pegasus Estate mod was debating whether or not to make her mod require MGE. One person chimed in, "You may as well. Just about everyone uses MGE, so why not?"
I posted a reply stating that I do NOT use MGE. My current video card doesn't like it. I've been to the MGE trouble-shooting site and have followed the suggestions listed to the letter, but it's no use. My video card and MGE are oil and water, and I am not going through the trouble and expense of getting a new video card just so I can use a third party application when playing Morrowind. Especially when my current video card works as it should.
In the end the Pegasus Estate author decided not to make her mod require MGE since quite a few of us gave our input stating that mods that require MGE are mods that we can't use and she wanted as many people to be able to enjoy the beautiful house that she had made as possible.

One problem that Skyrim modders face is that it is a violation of copyright law to port in a mesh from one of the dlcs to make it not require that dlc. When I bother to actually mod a house that is ideal for my characters, it's going to have to require Hearthfire for the planting piles of dirt because I want a garden to grow many alchemical ingredients that are otherwise hard to find. If I want to release the mod, I can't just drop the mesh and textures in with the script and create a new object out of it even as common sense screams for it.
But I did come across a mod the other day which said, "yeah it needs this DLC, you should have it because by now everyone has it." That's a crap attitude. Those DLC cost money and not every one has the budget for it.
I also don't like the attitude about MGE, or the script extender for Skyrim- assuming that everyone has it.
I'm glad Pegasus Horse Ranch was kept MGE free, so I can use it. I suppose I could install MGE, but why? I've been getting good screenies as it is.

I tried MGE back in August. Big mistake It had a conflict with my video card and I had to do a system restore and reinstall a lot of stuff, including mods. All I know is everything suddenly looked washed out and super bright and I didn't know how to fix it beyond doing a restore. I can accept copyright issues being the reason to require the DLC. I just can't accept the "if you don't have DLC too bad for you" attitude. Good thing those people don't get paid to mod

Yeah, just sticking something extra in there just to make it DLC dependent is a dick move, too.
Seriously, if they were to be paid, they'd find out how broke a lot of people are.

Ohh.. eeecccck. DLCs are a real sour spot for me. And it didn't start till Skyrim, ironically. I got Morrowind after Tribunal and Bloodmoon were released, and by that time many mods were already needing Bloodmoon. So.. not too bad.
But Skyrim.....
The moment Dawnguard was released, I knew I would have trouble, especially since a ton of reworks to werewolves and vampires were implemented, ONLY if you had Dawnguard, new armors form modders, new systems, all kinds of things..
Yet I had to wait till Steam had it on sale for like 5 dollars before I could get it. And for a time, I was happy. My mods finally worked again, everything.
Then Dragonborn.
Me: Bethesda.. I love you but... FFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU- *que raging*
My only real gear grinder with Morrowind is the mods. Namely getting certain ones that CLAIM to work together, to Run. I'm looking primarily at the RoHT (Rise of House Telvanni) set. Which composed of RoHT the main mod, Uvirith's Grave, Building Up Uvirith's Grave.. and various others.. Even though they have the 'Work all' mod for them. Getting the combination in the load list was a rightful PAIN. It was that perfect load order or everything messed up. Doors wouldn't work, objects would not load or work correctly.. Oy vey.

Require MGE? Is that even possible? I thought MGE was entirely optional.
I picked up Skyrim Legendairy edition a while back but I haven't had time to play it yet. I do hope modding it will be easier than it is with Fallout New Vegas. I find that mods broke often after new dlc was released and modders often had to make a plethora of compatibility patches. And then there's the massive overhaul type mods and body mods all requiring numerous patches to work together. It's all rather overwhelming but I really do applaud the efforts made by modders to somehow make it all work.

My venting is, I keep reuploading, reinstalling EVERYTHING - and stuff is STILL not working right for me!
For some reason, once I get 'Morrowind has an error,' that error is there til I delete the whole thing, reinstall Morrowind, reinstall expansions, mods, everything.
*cry*
